Birmingham welcomes Chinese New Year 2011

As 2011 heralds in the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, an earthly element in the traditional Zodiac, the city of Birmingham once again hosts its annual Chinese New Year celebrations in the Arcadian centre, right at the heart of its very own China Town.

Bringing with it even bigger and better celebrations, costumes, performances, dances, dragons and delicacies – the celebrations promise to entertain family audiences and visitors to the festivities. Included in this year’s programme of show-stopping attractions are acrobatics, Kung Fu demonstrations, traditional dances, food and gift stalls and the staple dragon dancing and firecrackers!

We’ll be adding some new video highlights from last years activities to our site in the next couple of weeks in preparation for the big day. In the meantime, why not find out more about the celebrations in Birmingham here or learn how to offer Chinese New Year greetings by local Birmingham Chinese Festival Committee chairman, Jeffrey Yap. You can also discover more about the Chinese Zodiac and what’s in store for your future.

You can find our more at the official Birmingham Chinese New Year website and at the city’s official CNY Twitter and Facebook pages.

Chinese New Year festivities take place on Sunday 6th February 2011 – Year of the Rabbit – at the Arcadian Centre (Hurst Street, Birmingham, B5 4TD) between 12pm – 4.30pm .
