Birmingham Zombies raise hundreds for charity

Birmingham Zombie Walk 2011

Zombies marching through Birmingham may have stopped bemused shoppers in their tracks this weekend but the ‘army of the undead‘ successfully raised nearly £2,000 for one fo the city’s most well known charities.

With over a thousand participants immersed in make-up and fake blood taking to the streets in aid of  Birmingham Children’s Hospital, onlookers got in on the fun once they realised a real-life zombie invasion wasn’t imminent.

Having raised £1,898.76  for the hospital following the event, organiser Jamie Chapman already has plans to arrange a similar ghoul themed Zombie Ball for Halloween and also has hundreds of keen fundraisers wanting to sign up for next year’s Zombie Walk.

“I organise events voluntarily but it’s so rewarding to see everyone coming together to make a positive impact. Both the people that help volunteer with the event and those that come along really do make a huge difference,” explained the 21-year-old from Sutton Coldfield.

“Thank you to everyone who came along to the Zombie Walk Birmingham 2011. We were overwhelmed with the support of everyone who helped out, came along and donated to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital,” he added.

The event consisted of a mass slow-walking Zombie Walk around the city centre before concluding with a zombie-themed after-party at alternative music venue Subside.

Also supporting the event alongside Monster Energy were The Oasis Market, Cafe Blend, alternative music venue Subside, Scruffy Murphy’s, The Costume Department, I Am Birmingham, Pulp alternative clothing, the Birmingham Hippodrome, American gadgets firm iFrogz, Park St. Tattoo, Vudu Night Club, The Square shopping centre and the city’s famous Nostalgia & Comics store.
