City becomes catwalk for Style Birmingham weekend

George Lamb and Caryn Franklin at Style Birmingham Live 2011

Birmingham was transformed into a paradise for keen fashionistas this weekend as it once again hosted a special fashion and beauty extravaganza.

Style Birmingham Live, a three-day event, launched full-throttle on Friday with a vast range of events, demonstrations and catwalk displays being showcased at shops, malls and stages across the city centre.

The Bullring launched the three-day event with Redefinition, a catwalk collection from Walsall designer Luke Roper featuring eight key looks from this autumn and winter, fusing black clothing, ripped tights and Dr Martens boots.

State-of-the-art technology was also used during the show to project 3D virtual holographic models on the run-way alongside the real thing, not long before a hologram of TV heart-throb George Lamb was also projected, exciting visiting crowds.

Television presenter and snappy dresser Lamb continued to be the face of Style Birmingham following a great response to his stint last year. He hosted the first of a series of catwalk shows, Q&A sessions and a VIP Gold Ticket meet-and-greet session being staged at the Town Hall.

Other city shopping meccas including Debenhams, Selfridges and The Mailbox were also on hand promoting the best of current fashion ranges and beauty therapies as part of the weekend-long events; alongside retailers including  Disorder in Needless Alley and House of Fraser in Corporation Street.

Speaking at the Town Hall event launch, the suave and sophisticated George Lamb felt Birmingham was “far more stylish than I thought it was”.

“This event is a great opportunity to show it off to people, and shoppers from across the country, to prove you don’t have to be in London to get the best that fashion has to offer,” he explained.

Other events to wow visitors over the weekend were Look Good shows at the Pavilions hosted by fashion guru Caryn Franklin and the Style Renaissance campaign at The Mailbox aimed at showcasing the best innovative brands and designs.
