Cirque Éloize bring the urban circus to the urban jungle

A youngster is shown Cirque Eloize performance skills at a Birmingham Hippodrome workshop

As the internationally acclaimed Cirque Éloize land in Birmingham, bringing with them their stunning circus performance and urban dance show iD, members of the Canadian-based troupe joined youngsters from the city in free circus skills workshops at the Birmingham Hippodrome during half term.

Working with professional artists from the company, young people from around the city were given the opportunity to take part in circus taster sessions, and the chance to experience aspects of Cirque Eloize’s brand new show iD which receives its regional premiere at the Birmingham Hippodrome in November.

juggler Nicolas Fortin said:

“We’re going to perform here at the Hippodrome the Cirque Eloize iD. Basically what I do in the show is I’m the juggler and I do trampoline, wall trampoline. It’s kind of like there’s a trampoline on the wall and we’re walking on the wall and then landing on top of the wall and doing flips and lots of things like that.”

This being the first time iD will have been presented in Europe, the show features an international cast of 16 energetic and multi-skilled performers fusing circus and multimedia giving it a unique feel.

‘iD’ runs at Birmingham Hippodrome from Wednesday, November 2, 2011 to Saturday, November 5. Tickets are priced from £14.50-£30 and are available online at www.birminghamhippodrome.com or by calling 0844 338 5000. Performance times Wed-Fri Eves 7.30pm; Sat 2.30pm & 8pm.
