Students in Walsall have taken inspiration from the recent Clothes Show Live event in Birmingham and are holding their very own fashion show, showcasing the best of prom and vintage wear.
A group of young fashion enthusiasts from Aldridge School Sixth Form have been working hard putting together the unique catwalk show, during which they will also be selling some of the stylish pieces on display, in a bid to enhance their potential future prospects in the fashion industry while raising money for a good cause.
The team of six organisers – consisting of Tia McGregor, Jessica Kendall, Larissa Shaw, Chloe Downes and Lucy Elliot – felt the creation of the show, dubbed ‘Rip the Runway’, was the best way to express their passion for fashion.
Tia McGregor, who recently attended Clothes Show Live to observe the behind-the-scenes workings of the event as part of the WB Project, explained why the girls decided to stage the show:
“The reason we have decided to put together the fashion show is for future experience, as we all want to do something related to this in the future, and to also celebrate the talent of our school and others.”
The fashion show, being held this week, will primarily be an opportunity to see youngsters displaying classic and contemporary prom wear and vintage wear, all modelled by the students themselves.
Accompanying the main event is a range of entertainment including acoustic singers Josh and Ryan, former student Chloe Wharton performing Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas Is You and a performance from Steppaz Dance School.
With the style initiative backed by fashion boutiques including Judy Eccleshaw’s Drop Dead Gorgeous
Dresses, Darlington Vintage, hair stylists Francesco, PAC Photography and freelance make-up artist Sarah Craddock; the organisers hope the event will raise the profile of their work as well as assisting student organisation M.A.D (Making a Difference), a project aiming to raise funds to travel to lower economically developed countries in 2012.
The students are planning to help children in poverty stricken conditions by teaching within schools and helping build cleaner facilities for them to commute in.
“This is important and hopefully will allow the students to develop a stronger value for life,” McGregor added.

The Rip the Runway fashion show takes place at 7.30pm on Wednesday 14th December in Aldridge School Sixth Form located in Tynings Lane, Walsall. Tickets for the event are £5 in advance and £6 on the door. Guests will recieve a complimetary wine or soft drink on arrival, along with light refreshments.
