Teenagers beat hundreds to become models for top city store

The faces of Devon Lee and Jamie Ryan Dee will be gracing posters for the Oasis fashion store

Two budding young models have won a national competition to appear on posters for a top Birmingham fashion store.

Despite tough competition from around the country, teenagers Devon Lee and Jamie Ryan Dee have both successfully taken the title of ‘Face of the Oasis’, becoming the first members of public to front a publicity campaign for the city’s premier alternative clothing store.

The national competition, which was launched in November of last year by media company Punk Zebra, attracted hundreds of contending entries from across the United Kingdom which were separated into male and female categories.

By way of a mass public vote utilising the power of social media, thousands of votes from across the country were cast on the Oasis Alternative Fashion Store’s official Facebook page as people voiced their reasons for why they wanted individuals to represent the store in its forthcoming 2012 publicity campaign.

These votes propelled five male entries and five female entries into the final shortlist of top ten contenders, which were in turn placed head-to-head in a final heat of public voting, before the final two winners were declared.

The winning couple will now be transported to Birmingham for a special photo shoot and press call on Saturday 11th February.

Speaking of his victory, Sunderland teenager Jamie Ryan Dee, said he was “genuinely shocked and flattered that I’d won against so many other competitors”.

The 17-year-old, who has recently amassed a large internet following for his video blogging, expressed his excitement at representing one of Birmingham’s flagship independent style houses.

“I’m nervous about the photo shoot but looking forward to the experience.”

Local Tamworth girl Devon Lee, 16, hopes to get into professional modeling and couldn’t believe her ears when she was told she had beaten hundreds of other female competitors in the challenge.

“I was absolutely thrilled when I found out I would be the Face of The Oasis as I shop there often and see it as an honour to be representing such a unique and distinctive store,” she explained.

“Although nervous, I am really looking forward to the experience and the fantastic opportunity I am getting from the photo shoot.”

The duo’s winning faces will be displayed on posters and publicity in-store and across the city, as well as on the Oasis Alternative Fashion Store’s official website and social networks.
