V Festival launches, kicking up a frenzy

Today hundreds and thousands of music fans flocked to see a host of world renowned artists take to the stage for the first day of V Festival 2012. 

The Killers, Snow Patrol and the reunited Happy Mondays wowed crowds at Weston Park, Staffordshire, whilst Mancunian rockers The Stone Roses, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and David Guetta delighted sun-drenched festival goers at Hylands Park, Chelmsford. 

In Hylands Park, Scottish songstress Emeli Sandé drew a crowd outside her dressing room with her series of vocal warm-ups, before performing a cover of Coldplay’s Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall as well as her own favourites, Read All About It and Next To Me.

Ahead of Ed Sheeran headlining on the Arena stage down south, the talented musician made an early cameo appearance with Wretch 32 to perform HushLittle Baby.

The acoustic hero then continued his performance backstagewith an impromptu jamming session with Wretch 32 and Professor Green in the dressing room area.

Meanwhile, up in Staffordshire, Essex boy Olly Murs charmed the crowdswith a cover of Aloe Blacc’s I Need A Dollar before joining fans on the front row for his musical icons Madness and Tom Jones battled through the bras and knickers thrown on stage to entertain the crowds.

New star of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar Tim Minchin mirrored the dark humour of his runaway West End hit Matilda as he kindly asked his chuckling fans not to die during his set, hiding behind his sunglasses and a trilby.

Superstar DJ David Guetta closed the 4Music Stage at Hylands Park, performing an electrifying gig complete with an on-stage collaboration with vocalist Sia.  The set then finished on a high with a spectacular fireworks displayabove the festival arena.

Meanwhile in Weston Park, LMFAO took full advantage of being moved up the bill by rocking the 4Music Stage audience with inflatable zebras, palm trees and someone dressed as a giant red bear.

With a whole day of festival fun still to come, music fans take to their campsites this evening ahead of what is expected to be an eventful finale to V Festival 2012 on Sunday.
