Top Gear Live Stunt Team 2012
The Top Gear Live Stunt Team is aiming tobreak another World Record at Top Gear Live.

The fearless Top Gear Live Stunt Team is aiming to establish yet another astonishing World Record by completing the first double loop-the-loop on a motorbike at next week’s Top Gear Live show at Birmingham’s NEC.

In Durban, South Africa this summer the daredevil team were the first to complete a double loop-the-loop in a car with that dramatic ‘Deadly 720’ stunt already being officially recognised as the ‘First Double Loop by a Car’ by Guinness World Records.

It appears though that the Top Gear Live Stunt Team were saving the best for their home crowd as British fans will be the first to witness the even more technically challenging and daunting Deadly 720+.

The stunt will be attempted utilising the same pair of eight metre tall steel loops as first erected in South Africa. This time, though, speeds are higher as the bike – a standard KTM 250 SX-F with recalibrated dampers to cope with the extreme demands – must travel at between 27mph and 29mph to avoid tumbling out of the loops or the possibility of the rider blacking out. Only one factor is certain: the NEC crowds are going to be on the edge of their seats.

If all goes to plan, the history-making Deadly 720+ stunt will be one of the many highlights of nine action-packed Arena Shows staged over the four days at the NEC – all hosted by the three presenters of the hugely popular BBC TV show: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

Although the stunt is even more demanding on two than four wheels, Top Gear Live Creative Director Rowland French is confident that those at the NEC will witness another World Record.

He enthused: “We were all very pleased with our collective bravery when we set a new Guinness World Record by sending a car through a double loop-the-loop, but it got us thinking: could we perform the same feat if we removed 50 per cent of wheels as well as the roof and the steering wheel? In other words on a motorbike!”
