Brum actor Ryan Cartwright stars in new US sitcom ‘Kevin Can Wait’

A Birmingham actor has been cast in a new US sitcom alongside comedy giant Kevin James.

Ryan Cartwright, originally from Erdington, appears in CBS show Kevin Can Wait, playing an awkward app inventor named Chale Witt.

The Brummie actor already has a string of similar roles under his belt, having previously portrayed loveable geeks including nerdy forensic scientist Vincent Nigel-Murray in Bones, and an autistic genius Gary Bell in American science fiction TV show Alphas.

36-year-old Cartwright is now set to appear on British screens in the first series of American comedy Kevin Can Wait, alongside Kevin James, who plays family patriarch Kevin Gable.

Kevin James – best known for the sitcom The King of Queens, films Hitch, Paul Blart: Mall CopGrown Ups and exclusive Netflix series True Memoirs of an International Assassin – plays Kevin Gable, a newly retired police officer living with his wife and three children in Long Island.

Ryan Cartwright plays the shy and soft-spoken English fiancé (and then husband) of  Kevin Gable’s daughter. He moves into the Gable family’s garage following the revelation of his engagement with Kendra Gable, played by Taylor Spreitler.

Kevin Can Wait has been on screens in America since September last year and arrives to E4 this week. Cartwright appears in all 24 episodes in the first series, and is set to return in the second series on CBS in the US in September.

Also appearing in the show are special guest stars Adam Sandler, Harry Connick Jr. and Billy Joel.

Rising star Ryan grew up in Erdington in Birmingham and attended Great Barr School, before he shot to fame playing narrator Darren in nostalgic comedy-drama television series The Grimleys, set on a council estate in Dudley. He starred alongside Noddy Holder and Amanda Holden.

He moved to Los Angeles ten years ago, and has had success in TV and film, landing roles in Mad Men, The Big Bang Theory, Vacation and Independence Day; Resurgence.

 

‘Kevin Can Wait’ airs on E4 on Thursday 20th April at 8.30pm.
