Queer Question Time in Birmingham ahead of General Election 2017

At a time when the country is more divided than ever, the forthcoming general election is likely to be one of the most heated for a generation.

Next week’s Queer Question Time at Birmingham Repertory Theatre will provide members of the LGBT community with the chance to put their questions to candidates from the main political parties, who will be joined on the panel by human rights and LGBT campaigner Peter Tatchell.

Candidates so far confirmed to attend are Liberal Democrat Lee Darque and UKIP’s Keith Rowe. The Tories, Labour and the Green Party have yet to announce who’ll be participating on their behalf. The debate will follow the format of the BBC’s popular Question Time programme.

Steve Ball, Associate Director at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and chair of Queer Question Time, said:

“Across the region, the votes of the LGBT community could decide who wins or loses.

“This is an opportunity not just to hear from the candidates about their views and policies but also to have our own voices heard. It promises to be an exciting evening of lively and heated debate.”

Dave Viney, Health & Wellbeing Manager at Birmingham LGBT added:

“Birmingham LGBT is proud to be partnering with Birmingham REP to produce this edition of Queer Question Time.

“Following Equal Marriage, it’s easy to be complacent about the issues still facing the community. Events like this offer us the chance to remind politicians that we are citizens and voters, and to raise our concerns directly with them.”

Queer Question Time in Birmingham is a free event, but booking is recommended. The event takes place at the Birmingham REP on Tuesday 6th June at 7.30pm. You can register here.
