A man will appear before magistrates today charged with attempted murder following a knife attack on a 15-year-old boy in Herbert Road, Small Heath, during the early hours of (Saturday 30th September).
Unemployed Dominic Palmer, aged 29, of Herbert Road, Small Heath has been remanded in custody and is due before Birmingham Magistrates Court this morning after teenager Syed Hassan Abbas was brutally stabbed in the head outside a Birmingham mosque
The 15-year-old schoolboy was attacked outside Idaara Maarif-e-Islam mosque in Herbert Road over the weekend, after his father dropped him off at the place of worship.
The teenager remains in hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.
Detective Inspector Jim Colclough from the Complex Team at Bournville police station said: “This was a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time, we’ve since learnt that the boy only celebrated his 15th birthday two days before the attack.
“Our investigation is continuing as we work to establish the circumstances of what happened so that we can provide his family with the answers they need.
“I would ask anyone with information to come forward.”
He had earlier also stated: “As I have said before the motivation for the attack is not yet known, we are keeping an open mind as to whether it could be racially or religiously motivated.
