New Doctor Who Jodie Whitaker’s costume revealed… and it’s a bit Mork & Mindy

Here’s the first photo of new Doctor Who Jodie Whitaker in her official costume ahead of her debut as the Thirteenth Doctor… and she looks a bit like, well, er, Robin Williams from Mork & Mindy.

We may have around 6 weeks before Christmas, but the Whovian gifts have already begun arriving, as the BBC teased us with this awesome shot of Whitaker’s Doctor earlier this afternoon. Cue hashtag #DoctorWho… again.

Jodie was announced as the new Time Lord to great fanfare in July, noted for being the first woman to command the role.

The new publicity photo doesn’t give too much away, except that she is definitely rocking her unique look, which appears to continue the slightly eccentric accessorising true to Doctor Who tradition.

It’s not just the long cape-like coat and rugged walking boots that helps Jodie make the look her own. She’s also definitely channeling Robin William’s iconic sci-fi Mork character, by not only paying homage to his classic colour-striped suspender design stretched across her top, but going the whole hog and donning a bold yellow pair of actual suspenders too!

Whittaker makes her debut in the Christmas Day special, which will also be the final appearance of outgoing Doctor Peter Capaldi. Jodie’s first series of 10 episodes arrives in autumn 2018, and will feature actors including Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole, Mandip Gill, and Sharon D Clarke, while Chris Chibnall takes over from outgoing producer Steven Moffat this year.

Pearl Mackie returns as Bill Potts in the Doctor Who Christmas special

Peter Capaldi’s final episode of Doctor Who this Christmas will feature Pearl Mackie as Bill Potts and be called Twice Upon a Time. Viewers will have to wait until Christmas Day to discover exactly how Bill, who will appear throughout the episode, makes her return.

It was also revealed that the special will co-star Mark Gatiss in a guest role – as a World War One soldier, known so far only as ‘The Captain’.
