Birmingham Central Mosque in Highgate had a major clean-up operation on Wednesday, on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.
As the religious month of fasting and spirituality began this week, one of the city’s most prominent places of worship had its iconic dome refurbished
Over the years the building, and the famous white dome that encircles the upper half of the mosque, has lost some of the beautiful white glow due to the pollution emitted by the heavy traffic that flows on the dual carriageway that runs across Belgrave Middleway.
Huge cranes were used to lift water-canons to hose down the dome, minaret, and pillars. This act of cleaning the building is symbolic of Ramadan which has the theme of spiritual cleansing as part of the month of fasting where body and mind are purified and cleansed.
A day after the cleaning operation, the mosque has a really beautiful ambiance and aura about it, with blue skies enhancing the newly cleaned dome and pillars.
Birmingham Central Mosque has been an iconic part of the Birmingham landscape, and now it has been restored back to its original bright colour. The mosque will be hosting various events during Ramadan for all of the community.
You can check the official mosque website for more details and contact the office if you would like to visit and tour the building.
