Courtney Act hilariously pays homage to Drag Race’s Vanessa Matteo at Birmingham Pride

Celebrity Big Brother winner and Ru Paul’s Drag Race legend Courtney Act -who’s been performing an incredible set at this year’s Birmingham Pride – has paid a somewhat hilarious tribute to fellow Drag Race star Vanessa Matteo by way of her very own rendition of Amy Winhouse classic ‘Valerie‘.

You would never think an actual (weather-related) thunderstorm had erupted over Birmingham Pride today considering how fans had crowded in and around the Main Stage in anticipation of our very own thunderstorm, Drag Race superstar Courtney Act’s long anticipated performance.

After winning Celebrity Big Brother earlier this year and touring the country on her sold-out one woman show Courtney Act: Under the Covers, Courtney was set to be one of the key highlights of the Bank Holiday Weekend, and she did not disappoint.

Ever the comedian, Courtney wowed crowds with her pitch-perfect rendition of Amy Winehouse’s Valerie. However, in honour of Vanessa Vanjie Matteo, a contender on Season 10 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, she put her own spin on the track in homage to Season 10’s newest icon.

Just before her main performance, she gave I Am Birmingham an exclusive rendition, as you can see here:

The words, ‘Miss Vanjie’, have been engrained into any Drag Race fans mind since Vanessa’s shock elimination with the catch phrase featuring in almost every subsequent episode. A living meme and, now, Drag Race icon, Miss Vanjie’s famous catchphrase has now worked its way into Birmingham Pride with Courtney changing the iconic lyrics to:

“Since you went home first, everybody’s been a mess. I miss your plastic hair and the flowers on your dress. Why’d you exit backwards? Say it three times for me! Why don’t you come on over Vanjie! Miss Vanjie. Miss Vanjie. Miss Vanjie”.

Here’s that ‘Miss Vanjie’ moment:
