Who are the Drag Punk Collective?

In the true tradition of Birmingham’s club kids, cabaret artists and queer culture icons, Brum now has a new “Drag Punk” syndicate.

Dragpunk is a drag collective of creative queer-minded people based in Brum, who perform, host and run events and workshops, as well as the I’m Not Okay alternative queer ego and rock club night.

What is ‘Drag Punk’?

The DragPunk Collective is based in Birmingham

The group calls themselves Drag Punk as a form of identity expression rooted in the following:

Drag – Drag artistry is the expressive and creative art for anyone regardless of their gender, sexual identity and orientation. It knows no one gender but subverts and mocks all gender and art norms.

Punk – Expressive, individual freedom that is anti-establishment and anti-mainstream society.

What are they all about?

Drag Punk use drag to express identity and make bold statements about gender norms.

Collectively, they proudly showcase their style and appearance, and celebrate through art, performance and hosting club nights to promote inclusivity and acceptance. They are both socially and politically active in representing and defending LGBTQIA struggle, and joined hundreds of thousands of demonstrators in London in July to protest US President Donald Trump’s UK visit.
