A brand new Halloween themed theatre show is set to launch in Birmingham at the heart of the city’s queer scene.
With a fascinating fusion of a contemporary drag show along with traditional theatrical elements, Drag! Me To Hell aims to present a fresh approach to the performing arts within the LGBTQ+ community.
Presented by Dragpunk and taking place at the Nightingale Club on Friday 12th October, the show is set to birth a brand new era of drag performance in the city.
By mixing horror, fantasy and theatre, the entertainment extravaganza will challenge the audiences expectations of social and gender norms in an intimately intricate and exciting way.
Hosted by Lilith, a psychic medium, the interactive event revolves around the use of séance and the dark arts to fuel the narrative. With audience participation, tongue-in-cheek humour and a unique and refreshing take on what a drag performance should be, Drag Me To Hell is set to be a surefire hit.
The event’s strength lies in its attempt to demonstrate the evolution of the arts whilst retaining its ability to make a powerful statement.
Featuring an electric array of performers, including Paul Aleksandr, Tacky Alex, Amber Cadaverous, Cosmic Crum, Eva Serration and Tanya McKenzie; the live performance will showcase their theatrical abilities whilst staying true to the art-form. Special guest Ruby Wednesday will also grace the stage who’s ethereal and deliciously dark presence is perfect for the tone of the night
When asked about the aims of the show, organiser Paul Aleksandr stated:
“For us, the importance of mixing horror and darkness with comic relief and surprise will be important to set a tone that is fresh, unrestricted and that fans of drag and Halloween will love. We want to show [the audience] the sheer diversity, inclusivity and excitement of UK drag.”
Drag Me To Hell will take place at the Nightingale Club on Friday 12th October. Doors will open at 9pm and will be followed by a free after-party filled with bespoke alternative pop hits. Tickets are available here.
