The family of a man who died on Friday, (31 August) have been left devastated by their tragic loss, as he is named by detectives.

Anthony Sargeant, aged 33, was shot at from a car in Rickman Drive, Lee Bank just before 9.45pm last Saturday (25 August).

He was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound, but sadly did not survive the injury and died six days later. A post mortem examination confirmed he died of a gunshot wound.

Anthony’s family have paid the following tribute: “Our family and the whole community are devastated by our tragic loss. He was the light and soul of our family and the wider community. How do we go on without our superhero? Life will never be the same.”

Efforts are still ongoing to trace the car and its occupants.

Detective Inspector Justin Mason-Spanner, from the homicide team, said: “Sadly this has now become a murder enquiry after Anthony’s tragic death.

“We continue to work around the clock to try and establish what happened and I’d urge anyone with information who has not already spoken to us to come forward.

“We need to find answers for Anthony’s family and bring those to justice who believe there is a place for guns in our communities.”
