After a lacklustre debut of All Stars 3, VH1 has announced that eight fan favourites are set to return to the workroom to battle for the title of America’s first ‘Drag Race Xmas Queen’.

The ‘Holi-slay Spectacular’ will debut on Friday December 7th bringing with it fan favourites such as Eureka O’Hara, Jasmine Masters, Kim Chi, Latrice Royale, Mayhem Miller, Shangela, Sonique and All Stars 3 winner Trixie Mattel.

After a mixed response to the most recent all-stars, there are high hopes for the Christmas special, with promises that it will be an “extraordinary holiday-themed episode filled with jaw-dropping surprises, eye-popping fashion, and epic performances choreographed by Todrick Hall”.

The ‘Holi-slay Spectacular’ could be make or break for the brand. However, with a star studded cast and the challenges to match, it’s debut could bring with it a much needed rejuvenation to the classic RuPaul’s Drag Race brand. The show will stay on brand though by featuring performances and lip-syncs to RuPaul’s seasonal albums Slay Belles and Christmas Party.

Though it’s the first of it’s kind, by no means does Ru Paul intend on this being the last. “Nothing says Christmas like ‘Chestnuts roasting on an open fire, and drag queens slipping on their pantyhose,” Ru Paul said in a statement on the show. “Celebrating the holidays with my most festive girls inspired me to record my new album, Christmas Party”.

There’s no doubt that the special will see an iconic rematch between Shangela and Trixie Mattel – the two front runners in the latest edition of All Stars. After being knocked out of the top two by the jury, the internet went into a frenzy as Shangela was prevented from taking her, assumed, rightful stop in the top two to battle against Trixie. Sparks will surely fly as these to competitors enter the workroom once more to see who will reign supreme and become America’s first ‘Drag Race Xmas Queen’.

RuPaul’s Drag Race has fast become a reality TV phenomenon across the world. After sweeping the recent Emmy Awards with five accolades, its widespread popularity shows no signs of slowing down.

The ‘Holi-slay Spectacular’ will debut on Friday December 7th on VH1.
