Christmas at the Cathedral – Festive market and grotto to launch at Birmingham Cathedral

Birmingham’s popular Frankfurt Christmas Market returns this month, with a tempting selection of food and drink, alongside stalls selling traditional toys, ornaments and gifts; the annual festive markets are back in the city centre from next week.

Launching on the same day – Thursday 15th November – Christmas at the Cathedral will also be set in motion with attractions including a festive market and grotto.

Christmas at Birmingham Cathedral, also known as St Philips Cathedral, on Colmore Row will include an outdoor market and grotto in Cathedral Square this year.

The cathedral will be hosting a full programme of worship, music and film events to celebrate Advent and Christmas. The market will also be home to one of the largest Christmas trees in the city.

What’s at the market?

The market offers a festive array of locally sourced crafts, gifts, food and drink. Families will be able to book in for a very special visit with Father Christmas and to enjoy the events and services happening inside the cathedral.

Wrap up Brum appeal

The cathedral’s coat donation appeal will be stepped up this winter. Wrap Up Brum will run from 12 November until the end of December.

Members of the public will be able to donate coats at a chalet within the market. The cathedral team will then place the donated items on a rail outside the cathedral for those who need one.

Where and when?

Dates: 15th November (6pm launch) to 22nd December 2018

Times: Monday to Saturday 10am to 9pm, Sundays 1pm to 9pm

Location: Cathedral Square, Birmingham

Which other festive markets are open for Christmas?

The main Frankfurt Christmas Market will be open in the city centre, along with the ice rink and big wheel. Find out more about their locations and opening times here.
