An armed man who tried to rob a car dealership in Adderley Street this afternoon was reportedly held off by staff.
West Midlands Police have cordoned off a section of Adderley Street in Digbeth as an investigation is launched into this serious incident. Several police cars are currently at the scene and traffic is being diverted away. Details are still emerging about the incident.
The alleged armed robbery attempt reportedly took place at approximately 12:15pm today. A man brandishing a firearm and wearing a balaclava burst into Carz2Go Limited which is located near The Wagon & Horses pub in Adderley Street.
A source, who wishes to remain anonymous, said:
“It was frightening. I could hear lots of shouting coming from inside the car dealership. And then police cars arrived very quickly.
“Armed officers were at the scene too. From what I could see no one seemed to be hurt. A man was arrested and taken away.”
