Intruder attacks woman at home, with a knife from her own kitchen

A woman was reportedly attacked at knifepoint, robbed and slashed inside her home in Sparkbrook by a burglar.

The disturbing attack took place on Monday 4th February at around 3am at a property in Barrows Road in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham.

20-year-old victim Alisha Malik was woken by an intruder and went downstairs in her home to investigate, disturbing the burglar who then slashed and injured her with a knife from her own kitchen.

Writing on Facebook, Alisha released the following message about her terrifying ordeal:

“I want people to be aware of the incident that I have experienced. In the early hours of Monday morning 4th February 2019 I was attacked in my own home. Someone broke in from the back door. I tried my hardest to stop the burglar from coming into the kitchen, and as I tried to keep him out he was too strong and pushed open the door and grabbed onto the kitchen knife.

“I was slashed in the leg which resulted in leaving me with a 12 inch long wound on my thigh. He then fled the scene.

“I managed to call police and was safe within a few minutes. I was unable to see his face as he was wearing a mask, fully dressed in black, and his hands were covered. He was about 5ft 10, broad build.

“This happened around the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham. If anyone else has seen any suspicious behaviour or activity please get in contact with the police as soon as possible.

“I want to prevent this from happening to anyone else. I want people to be aware that things like this do happen! Please ensure knives and any sharp objects are out of sight before you sleep.

“We need to protect ourselves and our community! Be alert, Be safe!”

West Midlands Police have begun an investigation into this incident and are currently analysing CCTV footage and conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area. The police also recovered the knife at the scene of the crime and the forensics unit is processing the data obtained from the weapon.
