May the 4th be with you, as today is Star Wars Day!

On what is such a hugely celebrated unofficial holiday around the world, there are plenty of Star Wars-themed events happening in and around Birmingham today as many celebrate the long-standing franchise.

Once again tying in with international Free Comic Book Day, where the city’s comic stores such as Forbidden Planet and World’s Apart (Nostalgia & Comics) give away free comics, there’s a host of activities specifically catering for fans of the world famous space opera.

The Original Trilogy will be screening at The Bristol Pear in Selly Oak from 3pm, where you can pay £2 per film or pay £5 to watch the entire trilogy.

Aldridge Methodist Church are hosting a seven-film marathon which began at 8am today, which plans to run until midnight with the conclusion of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. The church requested pre-booking and a cash donation.

The Hammer & Anvil in Birmingham city centre is hosting a “May the Fourth Be With You” night with live music, a best dressed contest and a best imperial March contest in their basement bar.

There is also a Star Wars-themed night at Sidewalk in the Gay Village, which also features fancy dress.

As many don their Vader masks or Jedi robes, practicing their Yoda impressions, you have a wide choice of places to celebrate events that happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far far away…
