A man has been jailed after being caught by West Midlands Police on Tuesday for letting his dog savage a cat to death in Pelsall.

A cruel yob who let a dog loose to maul a cat to death has been jailed – after he was tracked down by West Midlands Police following an appeal to trace him.

Amos Price was identified as the prime suspect after the sickening attack in Woodlands Crescent in Pelsall last month.

Shocking CCTV footage from 23rd October showed Price leading the dog towards the cat and then running off after the mauling.

The 30-year-old of Trevor Road, Pelsall, went to ground afterwards and officers launched a wanted appeal to find and bring him to justice.

Information received from the public helped locate Price on Tuesday 12th November and he was promptly arrested.

Amos Price has been jailed and banned from keeping animals for life

Price admitted causing unnecessary cruelty to an animal at Walsall Magistrates Court today and was sentenced to 18 weeks in prison. The maximum sentence he could have received was six months.

Price was also banned from keeping animals for life.

Chief Superintendent Andy Parsons, from Walsall police, said:

“As a police force and community we have all been appalled by the sickening actions of Price. It was completely mindless, senseless and beyond any justification.

“We are grateful to the support we received from the public who played a vital role in assisting our investigations and making sure he was brought to court to face punishment.”
