A teenager has been arrested by West Midlands Police in connection to an assault on a schoolgirl which was filmed and shared online resulting in over 500,000 views.
West Midlands Police have confirmed an arrest has been made following an investigation into the attack on the schoolgirl on a National Express West Midlands bus.
West Midlands Police released the following statement:
“We’ve arrested a 15-year-old girl after a video showing a schoolgirl being attacked on a bus in Birmingham was shared online.
“The video was posted to social media on Monday night (27 January) and has been viewed more than 500k times – but we understand the attack happened on 22 December 2019.
“We arrested a 15-year-old girl from Kingstanding on suspicion of assault this morning (Wednesday) and she remains in custody this afternoon. Plans are in place to speak to another girl later this afternoon.
“The victim has been spoken to and is being supported and the investigation continues.”
Inspector Lauren Glass from CID, said:
“The response from members of the public, clearly disgusted by what they’ve seen online, has been overwhelming and we’ve had lots of people getting in touch to provide names of people involved.
“We have identified two suspects. One has been arrested and plans are in place for the other to attend a police station for questioning later today.
“I’d like to reassure everyone this is being treated very seriously and that the enquiry is progressing. Under no circumstances should anyone take matters into their own hands as this could leave them liable to prosecution themselves.”
