15 weapons and drugs worth £300,000 seized in Wolverhampton crime crackdown

West Midlands Police have seized a haul of weapons and drugs during an ongoing crackdown on gangs and serious crime across Wolverhampton.

The successful clampdown follows a series of operations have been carried out across the city over recent months to tackle illegal activity and target criminals.

The operations have helped lead to more than 30 arrests since November for offences ranging from suspicion of conspiracy to supply drugs, possession of an offensive weapon to wounding.

The proactive approach has seen Class A and B drugs worth an estimated £300,000 recovered in just three months, including Class A and B drugs worth an estimated £300,000. There have also been 15 weapons – including a shotgun and machetes – which have been seized.

According to West Midlands Police, “It forms part of our ongoing commitment to keeping the streets safe and combating organised and gang crime.”

The force has teams focused on tackling gangs and stopping associated violence which is more prevalent in under 25 year-olds.

Inspector Stephanie Furber, from the gangs team, said: “We’re are actively disrupting those we believe are connected to gangs and wider criminal activities.

“We’re taking potentially lethal weapons off the streets and stopping one of the biggest sources of income by targeting the drugs network.

“These operations are ongoing across the city and we continue to relentlessly pursue those involved in crime.”

As well as carrying out raids and making arrests, officers are working with the public sector, charities and the community to divert children and young people away from gangs.
