West Midlands Police rescued a number of women allegedly being used as sex slaves and arrested two individuals at a house in Handsworth, Birmingham.

Officers searched a property on Regent Road in Handsworth just before 3.30pm on Thursday 20th February, after a concern for safety was raised in relation to its occupants.

Regent Road is situated between Sandwell Road and Rookery Road in Handsworth. The property that was raided by the police is located at the junction with Carlton Avenue.

Police arrested a 45-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman on suspicion of modern slavery offences at the address and both suspects remain in custody.

West Midlands police have confirmed that a number of women who were rescued at the property have been safeguarded following information indicating that they were being sexually exploited.

An investigation has been launched into this serious crime by by West Midlands Police and enquiries continue.
