Brummie comedian Joe Lycett – who now goes by the name of Hugo Boss – has recruited a team of fellow comics to send up movie star Gal Gadot’s celebrity all-star tribute to John Lennon, with his own expletive-laden version of the song ‘Imagine’.
After the Wonder Woman actress shared a recent video roping in her A-list chums to drop a few lines each of the famous Lennon track while in coronavirus self-isolation, Boss (Lycett) wanted in on the action and so created his own version. As you do.
Teaming up with Nish Kumar, Noel Fielding, Harry Hill, Rob Beckett and even Paul Chuckle, Boss filmed his hilarious version in a bid to echo Gadot’s star-studded rendition of the song, only with every line changed to include the word “bastard”.
In the original posted to Instagram, Gadot was joined by an array of Hollywood chums including Mark Ruffalo, Amy Adams, Cara Delevingne, Natalie Portman, Zoe Kravitz, James Marsden and Will Ferrell; in a bid sing a couple verses of John Lennon’s Imagine to lift public spirits amid the current coronavirus pandemic.
With no desire to be left out of the hype, Boss’ UK version had him and his celebrity mates belt out an edited version of the song for his Twitter followers, only with basically every other word replaced with ‘bastard’. Hilarity ensued.
BBC radio DJ Greg James also features in the short musical video, along with several popular British comedians.
The 31-year-old comedian’s satirical version includes the lines:
“Imagine there’s no bastards… it’s easy if you’re a bastard.
“No bastards below us… above us only bastards.
“Imagine all the bastards… living for today… to be a bastard.”
Well, they might not be Hollywood A-listers but Hugo Boss’ version of Imagine will probably certainly cheer you up a heck of a lot more than Gal Gadot’s. Be warned it’s filled with a lot of ‘bastard’.
