CORONAVIRUS: Derby police break up “massive” karaoke party held during UK lockdown

Derbyshire officers were left in “absolute shock” to discover a “massive” karaoke party being held on Saturday night despite the national coronavirus lockdown.

Enforcing unprecedented government measures demanding everyone stay at home during the virus outbreak, 25 people were dispersed by officers, while the event hosts “dealt with”, according to the force.

Breaching social-distancing rules in Derby, attendees of the unlawful gathering were described as having “complete disregard” for the current strict health and safety restrictions in place to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Responding to the incident, Derbyshire Police said:

“Officers have just attended an address in absolute shock to find 25 adults and children having a massive party with speakers and karaoke. Everyone dispersed and hosts dealt with.

“It is clear people are still having complete disregard for the Government advice and rules.”

The party was held on the first weekend of a nationwide lockdown, during which people have been told to stay at home for at least three weeks except for “very limited purposes”.

The measures were announced with the aim of preventing the spread of coronavirus by limiting day-to-day contact between people.

Derbyshire Police also found a separate group of people enjoying a picnic and shisha
