Officers from West Midlands Police have been delivering soft drinks to NHS workers after a local college asked for assistance in distributing excess stock from vending machines.

Following the coronavirus lockdown and closure of educational institutions, South and City College in Birmingham had hundreds of untouched drink bottles, from a wide variety of brands, left over at the Bordesley Green campus.

In a statement, West Midlands Police stated:

“We’ve worked alongside our friends at South and City College to donate energy and soft drinks to NHS staff.

“Rather than go to waste the college contacted Birmingham Police to see if others could get some benefit during these difficult times.

“So our officers and staff decided to split them between health workers at Heartlands and Good Hope hospitals. They will hopefully offer some refreshment to our health workers and show our appreciation for their efforts.

“It was a lovely gesture from the college to offer the bottles for free. We’re all working together to help others as we fight COVID-19.”
