Masked gunmen open fire on group of six young men inside Handsworth burger bar

Dramatic CCTV footage has emerged which shows alarming scenes of hooded gunmen chasing a group of men into a Handsworth burger bar where shots were fired yesterday evening.

West Midlands Police were called to reports of three men chasing a group of others into DFC Chicken, in Rookery Road, just before 6pm on Monday (April 20).

The gunmen opened fire on the street and shot inside the burger bar. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured but the incident has left people traumatised.

Shots were fired and the trio of armed shooters then quickly fled. The other group – which consisted of up to six men – had also left by the time police officers arrived at the scene.

According to police this incident seems to have been a targeted attack between different groups. CCTV enquiries are being conducted by West Midlands Police as detectives investigate this alarming incident which has left people deeply shaken.

The dramatic CCTV footage shows the incident from several angles including the initial build-up outside as a blue car slows down on the corner of Rookery Road and Westbourne Road and three hooded men armed with guns are seen chasing after a group of men on the street who flee into a nearby takeaway.

In the video recording, the men fleeing the shooters are seen wearing coronavirus-style face masks as they try to dodge bullets being fired by the hooded gunmen.

The footage from the interior of the shop shows people fleeing and ducking or jumping over counters to evade being shot by the gunmen who casually stand outside the shop and open fire. The staff inside the takeaway can be seen huddling for safety from the gunmen.

It appears that one of the gunmen was wielding what looks like a machine gun.

Inspector Jim Church, from CID, said:

“We’re following a number of lines of enquiry but I would urge anyone who knows those involved to contact us.

“Fortunately, no customers or staff inside the shop were hurt. They could have been innocent victims of what we believe was a targeted attack between groups.”
