A pub which put profits before public health has lost its licence after being caught breaching the coronavirus lockdown ruling and serving alcohol to customers in Wolverhampton.
The Pendulum Pub in Blaydon Road, Pendeford, Wolverhampton was caught violating the government’s Covid-19 restrictions which were put in place to stem the spread of the potentially fatal disease.
A Coronavirus Restrictions Prohibition Notice was served after it emerged the pub was still trading and posing a coronavirus health risk to customers and endangering the welfare of the wider community.
Police seized CCTV footage from the premises after the management refused the request to hand over the video. The footage provided clear evidence of the pub operating in defiance of the government’s coronavirus lockdown ruling.
At a review hearing, on May 20, the decision was reached to revoke the pub’s licence by the city council licensing sub-committee.
Sergeant Steph Reynolds, from Wolverhampton Police’s licensing team, said: “The closure of pubs was ordered by the government to limit social contact and help tackle a global, public health crisis.
“We’ve seen the devastating impact of Covid-19 and this was a blatant breach of the regulations.
“Commercial gain was put before reducing the spread of the virus and the welfare of the wider community.
“This should serve as a stark warning that breaking the rules is not only irresponsible, but can cost you a business.”
