26 suspects accused of disturbing child sex offences dating from between 2008 and 2016 have been formally charged following an investigation by police.
A police spokesperson confirmed that the 14 men and 12 women, aged between 20 and 69, will appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on 22 and 23 June to face charges of historic sexual abuse against minors.
The suspects come from various places including Bilston, West Bromwich, Walsall, Redcar and Wolverhampton.
The young victims suffered “physical and emotional” pain at the hands of their abusers according to police.
The investigation into this shocking case was conducted by officers from the Public Protection Team.
Chief Inspector Jo Floyd said: “This is a complex investigation involving several young people who have suffered physical and emotional abuse.
“They were safeguarded as allegations were reported and we are continuing to work with a number of other agencies to ensure they receive the support they need as this case progresses.
“We understand that this investigation will cause concern in the local community and I would like to reassure anyone affected by it that we take all reports of abuse seriously, no matter how long ago it happened.
“We have specially trained officers who can deal with reports sensitively and compassionately.”
