Four arrested by police after “lethal” arrows fired into Birmingham street

Four people have been arrested by West Midlands Police for firing arrows into a public street in Birmingham.

The arrests were made following reports yesterday (July 19) of crossbow arrows being fired into a Birmingham street and narrowly missing an elderly couple.

Police received an emergency 999 call at 5.20pm yesterday evening from a concerned member of the public, reporting bolts coming from an address in Gibbins Road, Selly Oak.

Armed officers were deployed to the scene where three steel-tipped arrows were recovered in the street and a property contained.

Three men aged 20, 24 and 49, plus a 21-year-old woman, were arrested from an address and a crossbow and further arrows seized.

All four people remain in police custody on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon.

West Midlands Police were called to Gibbons Road, Selly Oak, where steel-tipped arrows were found in the street

Selly Oak Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Imran Mirza, said: “On initial inspection the arrows recovered are steel-tipped and lethal. Thankfully no-one was hit as it could have ended tragically.

“We had armed police on the scene quickly to contain the premises and make arrests.

“It’s unclear at this stage whether these arrows were deliberately or accidentally fired into the street and our enquiries continue.”
