Over 50 firefighters are currently at the scene and people are being urged to stay indoors and close their windows.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We currently have 10 appliances plus specialist appliances in attendance at a severe fire at Tyseley Industrial Estate.
“Please keep doors and windows closed.”
Motorists are also being urged to keep car windows closed and divert away from the Tyseley area.
The smoke is visible from several areas around the city including Birmingham Airport, Sparkbrook, Weoley Castle, Haymills, Aston, Small Heath, Newtown, Bordesely Green, Sparkhill, and even as far away as the Jewellery Quarter.
