Police have issued an urgent appeal for information after a father was injured while protecting his baby from a masked robber who launched a “terrifying” attack in Bournville.

The robber attacked the victim and threatened to harm the 22-month-old girl in Hawthorne Road on Bank Holiday Monday.

The father, who is believed to be in his 30s, spotted the armed robber and he quickly positioned himself protectively over the pram to ensure his baby daughter was safe from any harm.

The callous robber then slashed the father across his back back as the father bravely stood over the pram to shield his child.

The courageous father refused to back away and kept the savage thug away from his baby. The cowardly attacker then fled the scene empty-handed and a knife was later discovered in the area.

West Midlands Police officers are examining CCTV footage and carrying out further enquiries to identify the robber who carried out this disturbing attack.

Police have confirmed that patrols have been stepped up in the area and are appealing for anyone who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch urgently.

Detective Sergeant Marc Petford, from CID, said: “This was a terrifying situation as the victim was left fearing for the safety of his daughter and himself.

“It’s important we identify this man as soon as possible.”
