Police dog stabbed in the head by teenage robber in Handsworth

A West Midlands Police dog was knifed by a teenage robbery suspect in the early hours of Saturday morning in the Handsworth area of Birmingham.

The police canine unit dog was knifed in the head by the teenage suspect as he attempted to escape from the scene of the crime.

The shocking attack on the police dog took place in Larch Avenue at around 4am this morning (Saturday 14 November) when police arrived to apprehend a suspect in connection to a break-in at an allotments.

The dog was deployed by PC Paul Hopley upon arrival at the scene of the crime.

A police spokesperson stated that the dog, named Stark, was struck with a knife blow to the head by the teenager, but the brave dog still managed to bite the offender on his leg and prevented him from escaping into the night.

The teenage suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assaulting a police dog.

The 16-year-old attacker was transferred to hospital for medical attention and then taken into custody according to a police statement.

Police have also confirmed that Stark is in a stable condition and should recover from the stab wound he received at the hands of the teenager.
