Three teenagers charged with murder as police appeal for witnesses to Sohail Ali’s stabbing

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the fatal stabbing of Sohail Ali in Summerfield Park in the Winson Green area of Birmingham last Friday (4 December).

Three teenagers have been arrested and charged with the murder of 29-year-old Sohail Ali who was savagely attacked in Summerfield Park, Winson Green, at around 2.30pm last Friday.

The 17-year-olds – two boys and a girl – appeared in court on Thursday 10 December and were remanded in custody until their next appearance at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (14 December).

However, detectives believe there are still at least two potentially significant witnesses who were in the park at the time that have not yet traced.

A police spokesperson stated that enquiries suggest a man or teenager was riding a mountain bike – possibly a bright coloured one – near the Dudley Road entrance of the park.

The second individual that the police would like to come forward to help with the investigation is a black male with two shopping bags who was seen walking through the entrance of the park just after the brutal stabbing had taken place.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from the Homicide Unit, said: “We really need to speak to these two people. They may have unknowingly seen something significant so I would urge them to get in touch.

“And if anyone else was in or near Summerfield Park last Friday afternoon around 2.30pm and has yet to contact us then please drop us a line.

“We have made good progress on the investigation and charged three suspects – but our enquiries continue as we are determined to get justice for Mr Ali’s family.”

The officers investigating the shocking murder returned to the Birmingham park yesterday (Friday 11 December) in a bid to search for further witnesses.

West Midlands Police described the fatal stabbing as an “appalling” act of violence. A week after the savage knife attack local residents remain in shock at the murder which took place in a Birmingham park in broad daylight.
