VIDEO: Volunteers feed homeless on Christmas Eve at Birmingham New Street Station

Volunteers from across Birmingham came together this evening to help feed the homeless in the city.

Organised by Sikh charity Midland Langar Seva Society, the special soup kitchen was held just outside Birmingham New Street station in partnership with Network Rail.

The annual Christmas meal for the vulnerable has been held inside the station since 2018, usually with seating arrangement, but this year it was prepared as a takeaway meal to ensure COVID-19 regulations were met and everyone was safe.

Along with a fresh hot takeaway meal, volunteers dished out festive treats including mince pies and an array of sweet desserts while live music was performed and classic Christmas songs rang out on large speakers.

Santa was also on hand to give out gifts and provide festive cheer, with many service users being provided with bags of essential items as well as special presents and a hot drink.
