Woman attacked and robbed in her own home after meeting man on dating site

West Midlands Police are appealing for information after a woman was attacked and robbed in her own home after arranging a date through a popular dating app.

The 44-year-old matched with a man on the digital platform and met him in the foyer of her apartment building in Tipton at around 1.30am on 8 December.

A short time late, two other men turned up and forced their way inside her flat before instigating a vicious attack on the woman.

The woman was punched to the face and the stomach by all three men who then stole two iPhones and a set of keys before escaping.

Luckily the victim didn’t sustain any serious injuries, but the psychological impact of the attack “cannot be underestimated” said police. “We’re determined to find those involved in this horrible incident, but we need your help.”

The force has released images of three men they want to identify, and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward and reveal their identities.

Websites and dating apps have changed the way that singles seek romance, and more people than ever are happily meeting new partners and finding love via the internet.

According to information from West Midlands Police, “offenders can sometimes use dating sites and apps as a way to target new victims.

“Whilst we would never discourage anyone from using these sites and apps, sadly, not everyone is who they say they are online so be careful when arranging to meet.

“If you do decide to meet up in person with someone you have met online, we recommend that you take precautions to ensure your personal safety.”
