Police arrested five people and taken a series of deadly weapons off Birmingham streets on Friday.

West Midlands police revealed that officers conducted a firearms warrant at a house in Small Heath yesterday (16 July) and discovered a dangerous stash of weapons.

A spokesperson for West Midlands police stated that officers “continue to crack down on violent crime in Birmingham” after arrests were made at a property in Small Heath on Friday where a disturbing stash of weapons were seized.

Three men, aged 39, 36 and 34, and two women aged, 42 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms.

Three of the arrested individuals have been released pending further investigation and two remain in custody.

Police issued a list of the shocking items discovered after the search had concluded. The weapons recovered included a sub-machine gun, shotgun and two pistols.

The seized weapons have been taken off the streets and sent for forensic investigation to see if they have been used in connection with other crimes around the Midlands.

The police spokesperson also added: “A sawn-off shotgun was also recovered in Ladywood last night. Enquiries are under way.

“Our priority is to protect members of our communities from people who carry weapons or commit crime.”
