A man has been arrested for the brutal murder of a teenager who was stabbed to death in the Hockley area of Birmingham on Saturday (31st July).

Police arrested the man at around 9pm on Sunday after extensive CCTV and other enquiries led officers across the border into Staffordshire.

The tragic 19-year-old murder victim has been named as Yordanos Brhane. Ambulance crews arrived at her home in Unett Street, Hockley, shortly after the alarm was raised at around 7am on Saturday morning.

The teenage victim was found with multiple stab wounds. Sadly, nothing could be done to save her and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

West Midlands Police issued a statement confirming a 25-year-old suspect, who was known to the victim, has been arrested in connection with the murder of the teenage victim.

The murder suspect will be transferred to the West Midlands for questioning.

Detective Inspector Jim Mahon, from the Homicide Unit, said: “We believe the suspect was known to Yordanos but the exact nature of the relationship is unclear at this stage.

“Over the weekend we appealed for family members or people who knew Yordanos to come forward and I am pleased to say we have now heard from several people.

“This arrest is a significant step forward in our investigation but I would still like to hear from anyone who knew Yordanos, or has any information that could assist, to come forward.”
