Murder investigation launched after man dies following assault on Birmingham night out

Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally hurt while on a night out in Birmingham city centre.
The 50-year-old, from Birmingham, was involved in a disorder in Brindley Place, off Broad Street, at around 1.30am yesterday (29 August) and was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but was sadly pronounced dead later that day.
The incident is believed to have taken place in front of All Bar One and the Slug & Lettuce, in Water’s Edge, on Sunday. Police cordons remain at the location as forensic examinations are carried out and CCTV footage reviewed.
Adam Yosef West Midlands Police are urging anyone who witnessed the trouble or has video footage is urged to get in touch.
Following the attack, Superintendent Paul Minor said: “We believe trouble started in a pub before further disorder in the street where the assault has taken place.”
The victim had suffered a fractured skull and facial injuries and was critically ill in hospital yesterday. Another man was admitted to hospital with a broken nose.
Adam Yosef “We’ve launched an investigation, have spoken to witnesses and are in the process of seizing CCTV to identify who’s involved.
“The area was very busy and we believe several people may have been filming the disorder and the aftermath on their phones. I need those people to come forward as they may have caught the offenders on camera.
“I would also encourage the people involved in the disorder to come and speak with us so we can get a clear picture of what happened and hear their side of the story.”
Adam Yosef Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Mobberley, from Force CID, reiterated the appeal today: “We are supporting the relatives of the man at this difficult time.
“Our officers have been working through the night to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
“We are carrying out a robust investigation to find who is responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.”
