Police confirmed Sir David Amess, MP for Southend West in Essex, was tragically stabbed to death at his surgery meeting in Leigh-on-Sea this afternoon.
The horrific killing took place in Eastwood Road North shortly after 12.05pm today 15th Oct).
Sir David Amess, 69, was reportedly attacked and stabbed multiple times by a man who walked in as the MP conducted his surgery, and despite the best efforts of paramedics, who arrived swiftly to the scene, the poor victim tragically died at the scene.
Sir Amess – a father of five – was hosting a surgery with his constituents at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, when the shocking knife attack took place shortly after midday.
A 25 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder for the brutal crime and is currently in police custody.
Police stated that a knife was recovered from the scene and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
The appalling death of Sir Amess has sickened the public and mirrors the murder of MP Jo Cox who tragically lost her life in West Yorkshire in 2016 in similar circumstances.
