Double shooting in Ladypool Road and Walford Road with one victim shot in neck

Police are hunting gunmen after two victims were shot in Ladypool Road and Walford Road in the early hours of Saturday.

One of the men remains in hospital in a critical condition, say police. The scene of the shooting in Ladypool Road has been cordoned off as police conduct a forensic examination of the crime scene.

An investigation has been launched after two men were shot following “a night of disorder” said police. The violent attacks took place shortly after 2:30am (Saturday).

The first shooting took place in Ladypool Road where a man was shot in the neck, and the second incident took place in Walford Road where a man was assaulted and shot in the leg.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed that both victims were transferred to hospital for treatment. The man with the gunshot wound to the neck is reportedly in a “critical condition”.

Police said officers working on the case are “keeping an open mind” regarding a connection between the two shooting incidents. Detectives are scouring CCTV footage of the area and conducting house-to-house enquiries.

Detective Inspector Megan Stokes, from CID, said: “We were initially called to a report of a disorder in Ladypool Road, Birmingham at just after 2.30am today.

“We have cordoned off a section of Ladypool Road as forensic examinations are carried out and forensic examiners are also working at the scene in Walford Road.

“Such violence has no place on our streets and I would urge anyone with any information to get in contact with us.”

Local residents woke up in alarm when news spread about the shocking shootings and police quickly issued a message to calm the rising fear in the area.

Inspector Amir Abid, from Birmingham Neighbourhood Police, issued a message of reassurance to the local community saying: “We understand that incidents like this can be alarming for local people so officers are out on extra patrols around the area to offer reassurance to the community.”
