Police have launched an investigating after a gun was fired at a car in Herbert Road in the Small Heath area of Birmingham last night (12 December).

The shocking shooting took place at around 7.15pm outside a mosque and police swiftly launched a search following the incident.

The shooting happened outside the Idaara Maarif-e-Islam mosque and detectives sealed off the car park of the mosque and conducted a search of the area.

Police have confirmed that a car, with two occupants, was shot at but miraculously the people escaped injury.

A white Audi A3 was visible at the scene of the shooting and it appeared to have a bullet hole on the passenger door.

A police spokesperson said: “It’s understood that occupants of another car and a van were involved in the shooting. We’re doing everything we can to find the vehicles and the people responsible.

“We cordoned off the scene for a forensic examination and enquiries are underway.”

Detective Inspector Michelle Cordell, from CID, said: “I understand that incidents like this are very scary and cause lots of concern for local people, especially when no arrests have been made.

“I want to reassure people that we’ve got multiple officers working on this investigation right now.

“Our priority is to establish exactly what happened, find the people involved and remove any dangerous weapons from circulation. If you can assist us with our investigation, please get in touch as soon as possible.”
