Arrests have been made following the tragic murder of teenager Yahya Sharif who was stabbed to death in Small Heath last Friday (10 December).
One man has been charged with murder and another male arrested on suspicion of murder, say police.
Abdulahi Abdi, 19, was arrested in London on Monday (13 December) in connection with the death of 18-year-old Yahya Sharif who was fatally stabbed in Coventry Road, Small Heath, last Friday.
Abdi was charged last night with murder and appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today (16 December) where he was remanded into prison ahead of a crown court appearance on Monday (20 December).
A second man was apprehended this morning and taken into custody from an address in Bordesley Green.
Discussing today’s arrest a police spokesperson said: “We believe he was part of a group that approached Yahya in Coventry Road at just before 5.30pm on Friday before he was fatally stabbed.
“Enquiries to identify and trace them all remain ongoing and we continue to appeal for anyone with information to contact us.”
Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, from the Homicide Unit, said: “We’ve made some good progress but this remains a live and very much active investigation.
“We’re continuing to establish exactly why this happened and we need anyone who can help us do this to come forward.”
