The no.11 Outer Circle bus was spotted with thick plumes of smoke coming out of the top deck windows on Stoney Lane, off Hob Moor Road by the Yew Tree junction.

Pedestrians quickly alerted West Midlands Fire Service and the road was closed off in both directions as three fire crews arrived at the scene and tackled the raging fire.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service, said: “We got the first call at 2.58pm. We had 18 calls, sent three appliances and the top floor was 100 per cent involved in fire.”

Thankfully, there were no reports of any injuries to the passengers, or the driver, and other motorists kept their vehicles away from the burning bus.

The arson attack caused disruption to other motorists during the busy Jubilee bank holiday weekend, and the bus services along that stretch of road were also affected.

It appears a group of youths started the fire on the upper deck of the no.11 bus.
