A shocked father from the Hodge Hill area of Birmingham called emergency services after a black and white striped snake measuring 5ft was spotted slithering around the family’s living room.
The stunned father quickly removed his children into another room and waited in terror for help to arrive on Sunday 12 June.
Unfortunately, the RSPCA were unavailable to deal with the emergency so West Midlands Police were sent to deal with the situation.
A police spokesperson said one of the call centre staff who also happens to be a reptile expert, and who previously worked in animal research for the University of British Columbia, offered advice on the likely type of snake and handling tips to the officers who were sent to retrieve the reptile from the Hodge Hill flat.
The officers promptly arrived at the flat and used a grabber and a pillow case to rescue the snake as it slithered under a sofa. The snake was later taken to a local reptile house.
The police officers believe the serpent probably entered the property through the piping system in the flat.
This dramatic report of a loose snake comes after last month’s report of a snake spotted in a Small Heath garden which left local residents shocked.
The reptile, thought to be a corn or milk snake, had reportedly crawled out of a cardboard box at a property in the Small Heath area of Birmingham but a brave resident captured the reptile.
