Brummie mascot Perry reaches over 100 appearances at Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games

Perry the Brummie mascot has been having a brilliant time at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, reaching a milestone of 100 appearances across the Games already.

You may have spotted him cheering on athletes, meeting fans, ‘high fiving’ volunteers and dancing at official festival sites.

From star appearances on live TV from Victoria Square and Centenary Square, to Netball, Hockey, Beach Volleyball and Lawn Bowls, the brilliantly colourful Brummie bull has been popping up across the city, racking up a whopping 100 appearances in the first few days of the Games.

“Over the coming days, he’ll be visiting every Birmingham 2022 venue, so be sure to give him a wave and high five!” announced organisers.

Perry the Bull was designed by 10-year-old Emma, from Greater Manchester, who won a national contest to create Birmingham’s mascot. The mascot is named after the city’s Perry Barr area, home of the Games’ main Alexander Stadium.

According to Birmingham 2022 organisers, he’s been busy visiting various schools over the last 8 months, meeting 39,000 school children. He travelled across England with the Queen’s Baton Relay and visited each region along the way.

Perry also has his own trail across Birmingham city centre with 17 physical statues and 8 digital avatars to find. The trail, in aid of Sport Relief, give the public the opportunity to participate in fun exercises, see Birmingham’s sites and soak up the atmosphere of the Games.
