Glamorous nightclub in Birmingham to ‘close for weeks’ following major water leak

Late-night Birmingham LGBTQ bar and nightclub Glamorous is to close its doors for “potentially a month” following serious internal damage to the venue.

Management at the establishment announced they could not continue serving drinks while the dance floor, cellar and kitchen had been affected by a “major leak”.

According to a statement from club owner Matt Eason, Glamorous Show Bar in Hurst Street will remain closed until repairs are made to ensure the nightspot is safe.

The Gay Village venue, usually open until 6am, is popular amongst late-night revellers partying after many of the clubs in Birmingham Southside have closed.

In a public message on social media, Eason stated: “Operating a business in a city centre is a challenge at any normal time, with Glamorous there are extra challenges on top with being situated in the basement of a large building that consists of lots of different businesses.

“It’s no secret that the building that Glamorous is in is old and that presents its own problems with regards to the parts that you cannot see.

“There are parts of the unit we occupy within the building that need some serious attention and I have taken the decision to close Glamorous for a few weeks, potentially a month, so that everything can be set right.”

Long-term entertainment venue businessman Eason, who is at manager Glamorous’ sister venue in Coventry, said public safety was a paramount priority for him and his team.

“As a bit of an insight, the buildings’ pipework, some of which has been in situ at the venue for some 35 years, through no fault of our own has become damaged and in places has caused serious leaks.

“We have experienced not only a major leak on the dance floor area but also in the cellar and kitchen.”

The cabaret bar and nightclub is expected to be partially renovated and reopened in around a month, according to management, just ahead of Pride celebrations in the city in late September.

“With all of this in mind, I cannot allow any further drinks to be served until the works have been completed. We look forward to announcing a date when we can welcome you back to Glamorous.”

Birmingham Pride is taking place in the city on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September.
